Actors

Our Main Actor Jordan in the first part of the opening. The suit gives the main character a sense of authority and formality. Although black normally creates a sense of mystery, the voiceover destroyes the effect of mystery as it is the main character talking about himself and telling the audience about his life. His hair is styled in the film opening unlike in the photo above and it makes him look like an average business-man; smart and professional. Wearing a suit has connotations of power which is the effect we want for the first part of the opening as it creates a contrast in the second part of the opening where he is helpless and vulnerable.

Our Main Actor Jordan in the second part of the opening. The main character is wearing ripped jeans, a dark hoodie and a waterproof coat over the top. These clothes are worn and show his decline from the powerful figure he once was. The difference in clothing and attitude (Shown more in the actual filming rather than the picture) creates enigma and shock with the audience. The actor we are using, Jordan, is the best to use for the character because he looks like a business-man but can also look like the complete opposite. He also acts both the character personalities he is meant to be, a smart influencial business-man and a vulnerable helpless homeless man.

Our Second character Tosh is in the second part of the opening. He is the unknown man chasing our main character, he is wearing black to symbolise sophistication and mystery to create enigma. His apperance is in contrast to the main characters and therefore draws attention to how the main characters life has changed for the worse. The second character is wearing suit trousers and a shirt underneath a practical yet formal coat. The practical coat shows that the second character is sensible but stil professional. The sensible clothing is the only similarity shown between the two characters although it is portrayed differently, the main character is wearing a warm hoodie and a waterproof coat over the top which is depicted as a necessity rather than choice while the second character has chosen his attire through choice alone. This choice shows that the second character has control while the main character does not. The actor we are using, Tosh, holds himself high and looks authorative which makes him the best choice for the character, the clothes he wears makes him look the character he is meant to portray.

Character Traits

Main Character:

- Slightly OCD (very neat)
- Family man
- Business/working man
- Responsible and Dedicated (to family)
- Quite wealthy

The Main character has a good life in the first part of the opening but it changes and in the second part of the opening he is homeless and being chased by the second character for reasons the audience don’t know. If the film continued it would be how he came to that point in his life and why everything changed.

Second Character:

- Professional
- Quite wealthy
- Impassive and unemotional when working

The Second character is an unknown; the audience don’t know why he is chasing the Main character other than what the Main character reveals in the Voiceover. Not much is shown about the Second character in the opening; the audience only sees the back or side of him which makes him mysterious and enigmatic.

Treatment

The subgenre is British Gangster and is inspired by ‘Layer Cake’ with the use of voiceover by the main character and contrast between smartly dressed characters and non-smartly dressed characters. In the opening there is a man who talks about his amazing life using a voiceover and the camera shows his life and family but then he goes into the bathroom and washes his face and when he looks up he’s changed and the tone of the voiceover changes with him, he walks out of the bathroom and the scene changes to an abandoned house where he is hiding from a debt collector. The character is now scruffily dressed and the debt collector is smartly dressed which creates a contrast between them. The character hides from the debt collector (no running or chase scenes) and he finds him and shines a light at his face and the picture freezes, although the voiceover continues for a few seconds before the scene ends. The location’s we are going to use are an abandoned house, a bathroom and a field. The abandoned house gives an eerie feeling and sets the atmosphere, the bathroom contrasts with the dark house and acts as a link between the characters new and old life. The field is an open but deserted space which implies the characters loneliness. The scene creates an enigma as the audience is left wondering why the character is being chased and why his life changed so much, if the film continued it would tell the characters story of why he changed and what happened between the two scenes shown in the opening.
